Towels

Picture of Towel.

There are more uses to towels than the classical drying after washing, and therefore several types of towels:

Bath towel, also known as bath sheet, is most commonly used, after bathing or washing. Its shape is rectangular and the standard dimensions are 30 inches x 60 inches.

Beach towels are larger towels that can also be used for drying but their principal purpose is to give you a protection when laying on the grass or sand, while the sun dries you naturally and tens you.

Usually they are vividly coloured and have printed nature themes.

We also have foot towels, smaller towels made for you step on immediately after taking a shower preventing the water draining directly on the bathroom’s floor, hand towels, kitchen towels also called tea towels or dish towels, Owen towels that are multi-purposes kitchen towels and sweat towel.

Sports towels are made out of special extra absorbent materials that can be squeezed when wet and afterwards reused.

Then we have wet towels, used in some restaurants before serving the food, wash clothes, face clothes and show towels that are fancy towels possibly embroidered that are created just to look stylish.

The difference between towels and their quality stands in the materials that towels are made of. Some fibres are more absorbent or more resistant than the others; manufacturers choose the right fabric depending on the towel’s purposes. The best quality towels are those that are thick and dense.

Terrycloth is the most absorbent material and is most commonly used in towels production.

Upland cotton is typically for the American towel production, and is considered to be short or medium stapled. Staple is the quality indicator and the longer it is the more qualitative the product is.

Egyptian cotton is the material with the extra long staple cotton, that is 37 mm and higher. It is considered the most luxurious fibre due to its softness.

Some towels have in their composition only half Egyptian cotton and the rest is modal fibres. Modal is a biological product made of beech wood cellulose and is better absorbent than cotton.

Micro cotton is good long staple cotton, made out of Sea Island cotton fibre that is used for smooth and soft towels with a great absorbance capacity.

Microfiber is a thin chemical material that consists in polyester, nylon, rayon and acrylic mixture. The advantages of such towel, as being so thin are: that it is easy to pack it and transport it and also dries easily.

Supima is the longest staple cotton, durable and fluffy, providing best comfort, very close to the Egyptian cotton towels’ quality.

Towels can be also extravagant and sophisticated; lots of famous designers focused their attention in creating towel collections. Tommy Hilfiger is one of them. The towels produced by him are 100% plush cotton and are the proof that a product can also be useful and still extremely stylish. His collection contains wash cloths, hand towels, bath towels, beach towels, all these in powerful colours and attractive patterns.

The latest style can be expressed by a monogram towel. This used to be a sign of royalty, having the family’s name elegantly embroidered on your towels. Nowadays fancy hotels provide monogram towels to their guests as well. You can also have a royal feeling by monogramming your towels with the names of your family members and also bearing a decent price.
