“When things don't work well in the bedroom, they don't work well in the living room either.”

Electric Blanket

The electric blanket is one of the most revolutionary inventions of the last century. It consists in a blanket that has an electrical device integrated, that produces heating. Usually the electric blanket is positioned on top of the bed sheet, but there are some exceptions as well. The electric mattress pad is a derivation of the electric blanket that stays under the bottom bed sheet; most of the times it goes for the name electric blanket also.

The purpose of the electric blanket is to either warm the bed before use of to keep the users warm during the entire night. In order to do that all electric blankets must have control buttons and sometimes also remote controls. Newer types of double electric blankets have different controllers for each side of the blanket, so that the two persons sharing it can adjust the warmth after their personal options.

Electric bedding is said to be excellent not only for heating but also for treating different diseases. Old people with blood flux problems are finding this item very useful. Some of the electrical blankets have the option of heating firstly the feet area and providing more heating in that part than the rest of the blanket. Also a good option for electric blankets is the automatically stopping when reaching the programmed temperature or when there is any kind of electricity problems malfunctions.

Electric blanket can also be a good way of saving your money. If you live alone or if you have a big house it is no longer necessary heating your entire place, at least not all the time. You can turn the heat off during nighttimes and use the electric blanket to warm yourself. Besides the economy, it is also well known that sleeping is healthier when the air’s temperature is lower.

Most electric blankets are made out of special allergy free material that can be machine washed and dried. The wires nowadays used in electric blankets are made out of carbon fibre that are safer and work only at only 24 volts instead of the classical 110/240 volts.

Many accidents have happened due to electrical blankets, most of them older than ten years. The explanation is the overheating of the blanket in the presence of easily flammable bed linen.

Electric blankets should not be used by people that have great tolerance of pain or that can not feel pain at all, the risk of accidents is increased this way. Also to be avoided by immobilized people such as small children or ill people, in case of emergencies they will be unable to react and there will be maximum damage.
